Michael Krist has won numerous international piano competitions, including first prizes at the Viotti International Piano Competition, the Casella International Piano Competition, and the Vienna Musikverein International Piano Competition (chaired by Claudio Arrau). As a performer, he has had an extensive international career, appearing in solo recitals, chamber music concerts, and as a soloist with orchestras throughout Europe, the United States, Japan, South Korea, and other parts of the world.

Krist also enjoyed a long and fruitful collaboration with the renowned baritone Hermann Prey, performing and recording Lieder together over a period of about ten years in major concert venues worldwide.

After teaching at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, Krist became a full professor of piano performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he dedicated many years to nurturing young musicians. In addition to his teaching career, he has given masterclasses both in Austria and internationally, including at the Hamamatsu International Piano Academy.

He has also served as a jury member for numerous prestigious competitions such as the Dublin International Piano Competition, the Isang Yun International Music Competition, and the Beethoven International Piano Competition in Vienna.

In the fall of 2016, he was awarded a special Gold Medal by the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in recognition of his many years of distinguished service.
