
NERIKI Shigeo

First Prize winner at the 1976 Tucson Biennial Piano Competition and the Three Rivers Piano Competition in Pittsburgh in 1979. He has performed with major orchestras such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, the Mexico National Symphony Orchestra, the French Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and Japan’s NHK Symphony Orchestra.
Since 1976, he has performed worldwide with the renowned cellist Janos Starker. As a chamber musician, he has appeared in numerous concerts and festivals across Europe, Asia, and North America.
He was awarded the 24th Suntory Music Award. From 1981 to 2015, he taught at Indiana University.
His mentors include Mieko Imori, Masahiro Oshima, and György Sebők. Currently, he is a Specially Appointed Professor at Toho Gakuen School of Music, a Visiting Professor at Soai University, and a Faculty Member at the Suntory Chamber Music Academy.
He is actively engaged in a wide range of performances, including recitals, chamber music, and collaborations with orchestras.
